…at the college Convocation on 4 June I’ll become Emerita.
For 30 years my workplace was Langara College in Vancouver, where I taught English and Women’s Studies and played an active role in faculty life, both in the union and academically. This spring I learned that Langara now gives the Emerita/Emeritus designation to “distinguished former faculty,” and at the college Convocation on 4 June I’ll become Emerita.
I’m very happy about this unexpected honour. Langara was a good “fit” for me, and my years there brought many, many satisfactions. Also, as one of BC’s original community colleges, it’s valuable. These institutions, in spite of vicious attacks from Victoria on their finances and autonomy, continue to serve BC students in unique ways. I’m proud to have worked at Langara!
