I’d never done an interview like this. It’s a good method. Liz would send me a question, usually quite long, that required me to think about my writing in sometimes unfamiliar ways. I’d mull over Liz’s query for days before answering, also at some length. The whole process took a couple of months.
Another pleasure: unlike with live in-person interviews, I had no annoying afterthoughts — I didn’t mean to say that! No, that wasn’t quite what I intended…. Etc.
Liz Windhorst Harmer is a writer to watch. She won Malahat Review‘s 2013 Constance Rooke Creative Non-Fiction Prize for an amazing piece called “Blip,” in the Winter 2013 issue (#185).
